This majestic fiord has no direct road access and so is quieter and more remote than it's famous neighbour Milford Sound and visitors agree that this adds to its magic.
Doubtful Sound is one of the largest of the fiords, it has three main arms and is home to three of Fiordlands 10 marine reserves.
You can walk four tracks that start from Deep Cove Hostel.
The easiest way to get to Doubtful Sound is to travel by boat from Pearl Harbour wharf in Manapouri, across the lake to West Arm, then travel by coach over the Wilmot Pass to Deep Cove.
This needs to be booked in advance with one of the local transport operators.
